Students of Lautoka School for Special Education were given a brand new wheel chair and walking crutches, worth more than $700, at their school yesterday.
Australian citizen Jason Narayan and his family donated the items for the students to use at the school.
Mr Narayan said it was the first time for him to assist a special school and he had seen the need to provide more for the students.
?We visit Fiji every year but for this year we thought of doing something different for a change, particularly in assisting the community,? Mr Narayan said.
?Now we have a wish list from the school that we will take with us to Sydney, and we will enlighten all our friends and relatives living abroad to assist the students at the school.
?Looking after these children should not be a burden on people as some may look at it, but should be a responsibility as they are special students who need extra attention.
He says he does not feel sorry for the students but envies them for their courage and strength in being able to achieve so much over the years.
?I have worked with disabled children in the past and I have learned that they are always motivated in achieving their goals,? he said. Students were also provided with morning tea at their school.
