South Korea's Jin Jong-Oh completed an Olympic shooting double Sunday, winning the men's 50m pistol gold eight days after his triumph in the 10m air pistol.
The 32-year-old sharpshooter amassed 662 total points to lead a South Korean one-two ahead of Choi Young-Rae, who finished with 661.5 points in a competition decided on the final shot.
Jin's final effort pushed Choi into second place, with China's Wang Zhiwei taking bronze with 658.6 points.
"I am so happy," said Jin. "I never expected a gold medal. I'd hoped for a bronze."
Jin was lying in fifth place after the morning qualifying dominated by Choi, while world number one Damir Mikec of Serbia failed to earn a spot in the final as he finished 16th in the first phase.
Jin, winner of the 2008 50m pistol title at Beijing took his tally of Olympic gold medals to three, with two silver from the 10m air pistol at Beijing and 50m at Athens in 2004.
He became the first shooter to repeat as 50m pistol gold medallist.
Choi went into the final with a three-point lead. His advantage dwindled throughout the final phase until the last shot, when Jin's 10.2 points to Choi's 8.1.
"It was my worst shot, but I tried my best," Choi said. "And when I finished, I just felt relieved."
In the qualification round, five shooters finished tied on 559 and had to shoot-off for eighth and last berth in the finals.
They included Beijing bronze medallist Vladimir Isakov of Russian and world number two Matsuda Tomoyuki of Japan, who both lost out to Italian soldier Giuseppe Giordano.
